Electro Harmonix Big Muff comparison

The Original Triangle Fuzz Big Muff Pi V1 can go for quite the pretty penny on eBay and other like sites, but how different does it really sound? I’ve owned the original Muff for several years now and always loved it, so we decided to borrow a friends reissue and see how similar they are. We used a guitar with mini humbuckers, a solid body Gretsch Electromatic (a great guitar for the price, but the machine heads aren’t great). The amp is a 90s Fender Twin Reverb, an amp thats great for cleans and handles pedals very well. We matched the settings on each pedal as close as we could and did 3 tests. The volume on the pedals aren’t punched, so we could keep the Muffs under reins. Which one do you like better? For my tastes, definitely the original. Way more subtle texture and control. That doesn’t mean the newer Muff doesn’t have its purpose though! It sustains very well and has a really pretty grit.
We hope you enjoy the video and find it useful!
